who Blog - E3: Are you kidding me? The Who? blogsSo I’ve been hitting the hay pretty early this week, keeping my old-man hours, and trying to stay off the E3 party circuit (and stay off the sauce; seems Uncle Crispy has a bit of a tippling problem).

But last night, I simply could not say no to the Harmonix/MTV Rock Band soiree at the Orpheum.

The all-but-confirmed rumor that The Who was going to perform suddenly elevated the event to old-man-hours-be-damned status.

Like a pair of ghosts, Roger Daltrey and Pete Townsend did indeed take the stage, and proved that for a couple of old farts, they still have the juice.

I’m partially deaf today. And I’m hoarse from screaming. (Yes, I will gladly scream like a school girl for The Who.)

The night injected a bit of much-needed soul into the otherwise soul-less week that E3 has been so far. And the banter between Daltrey and Townsend? Priceless. And a whole lot more genuine and convincing than any of the rehearsed bullshit we saw on Tuesday morning between Reggie and Cammie.

I must be the first person in history to see The Who and Justin Timberlake perform in the same night. I’m surprised that doing so didn’t open a rift in time and space, honestly.

I remember a small moment while standing next to Gus last night. We looked at each other, and I said, “Sometimes I like my job.”

Only it sounded more like this: “SOMETIMES I LIKE MY JOB.” Because The Who are really f***ing loud.
