KeeferIn making my rounds yesterday and today, the general concensus from PR folks is that the first day of the show was amazingly sedate. Everything is more confined, no loud music, no flashing lights that induce seizures … in general a much more professional presentation. Crispy writer Kyle Orland had the same reaction I did when we first arrived at the show: “Where are all the banners?” “Where’s the Humvee?” “Where are the people passing out flyers?” There was no outward appearance at the convention center that anything was going on inside.

Other observations and tidbits from Day 1:

Aside form the Microsoft press conference, all the big press events were held off-site. There was a shuttle between the Nintendo and Sony events, but having them off-site just felt a bit off. The good part of that was that it was really quiet at the convention center today while everyone was away. Those smart enough to miss the press events were able to get some decent hands on time with games with very little interruption.

Cliffy B stopped me to say hi and asked me who wrote our STFU article. I wouldn’t divulge the writer, but as editor of the site I took responsibility for it appearing there. He laughed, shook my hand again and walked off, defiantly saying “I’ll never shut up.”

Activision’s “non-E3″ press conference was last night. Even the asset disk had no mention of E3 on it. For a company that wanted to take some time off, their elaborate show was a funny way of showing it. That said, some impressive trailers leave me hoping their is gameplay to back up the good-looking graphics.
