Blog - Random E3 Encounter Number One: Saint Alex
July 15th, 2008, 10:44 am by Scott Jones
Yesterday colleague Scott “Dr. Playboy” Alexander and I were passing through the lobby of the Wilshire Grand–which, come to think of it, isn’t especially grand–when I said to him, “In my next life, I want to come back as Alex Rigopulos. That guy just has it all.”
We were in the middle of making Tony Montana/Scarface jokes about Alex–”First you make the Rock Band. Then you get the women. Then you get the power.”—when who should appear, like a vision, as if we’d summoned him ourselves, was the man himself.
Alex, with his porkchop sideburns and sharp duds, was, as always, affable and more than happy to stop and chat with us. In fact, after a few minutes of idle banter, he invited us to stop by the Harmonix private suite this week for some alone time with Rock Band 2.
For a Rock Band fan, this is the equivalent of being handed a backstage pass.
It was as if the heavens had opened, and a ray of sunshine suddenly came down and shone upon Scott and I, and the angels on high began to sing their on-high song. Hallelujah
With that, Rigopulos bid us adieu, then ascended the escalators in the Wilshire lobby, apparently heading upwards, to the heaven where his magical music games are made. Look for my report from the Rock Band 2 suite later this week.
